Dalam Proyek Nenek kami (lifepatch, Cindy Lin, dan Stefanie Wuschitz) ingin belajar dari para nenek yang hidup di Jawa. Bagaimana mereka memahami teknologi? Pengetahuan dan praktik mana yang mereka pilih untuk dibagikan kepada generasi berikutnya? Mempelajari hal ini akan memberitahu kita tentang struktur pengasuhan dan kepercayaan yang mereka jalani dan bagaimana mereka merawat struktur tersebut.Wawancara kami lakukan dengan orang-orang yang punya hubungan dengan anggota lifepatch. Sementara itu kami akan mencari bentuk-bentuk “teknologi” yang bisa bermanfaat dan sesuai dengan kebutuhan para nenek.
Dari pengamatan empiris kami mencatat bahwa kehadiran para ibu dan nenek pada hackerspace, makerspace, dan ruang-ruang sejenis amat sedikit, dan jika mereka hadir, kehadiran mereka dibatasi. Proyek ini bertujuan untuk menyingkap semangat berbagi dan berkolaborasi yang dipraktikkan para nenek, serta penyalahgunaan-kreatif sains dan teknologi yang mereka lakukan, melalui wawancara, lokakarya dan diskusi.

In The Nenek Project, we (lifepatch, Cindy Lin and Stefanie Wuschitz) want to learn from elderly self-identified women or “Nenek” living in Java. How do they understand and experience technology? Which knowledge and practice would they choose to share with other generations? It informs us about the structures of care and trust they live in and how they maintain these structures.
The interviews are mainly taken with persons who are related to members of the citizenlab lifepatch. In return we look for shared forms of “technology” that could be made useful to a nenek’s needs.
From our empirical observations, we noticed that the visibility of older women in hackerspaces, makerspaces and other similar configurations of science and technology is little, and if present, minimized. This project hopes to uncover the collaborative and sharing ethos practiced by neneks and their creative misuse of science and technology through in-depth interviews, workshops and discussions.
